Builds itself
Add your film and TV folders in Settings. It finds every title and fetches the poster, backdrop, IMDb rating and a short description.
Your films, wherever they washed up from. Soda Screen turns the folders of films and TV on your PC into a proper poster wall, with artwork, ratings and descriptions, then plays every file right there in the app.
v0.41.3
Latest version · 5 November 2026
// what it does
No accounts, no cloud library, no tidying up file names first. Soda Screen reads what you've already got and makes it look like a streaming service.
Add your film and TV folders in Settings. It finds every title and fetches the poster, backdrop, IMDb rating and a short description.
A built-in player that handles MKV, MP4, AVI and the rest. It remembers where you stopped, and you can still open anything in VLC with one click.
Shows grouped by season, with every episode listed. Previous and next episode buttons sit right in the player.
English audio by default. Turn subtitles on or off and pick any track, without leaving the film.
Add the YouTube channels you like. Open a film and see their reaction and review videos for it, ready to play in the app.
Themes are plain CSS. Paste one in, try it, keep it. Your last seven themes are saved so you can flip back.
The Info page has the cast with photos, crew, trailer, box office, UK rating, the rest of the series and where to stream it.
Paste a playlist and it's listed like a TV show, with resume and autoplay. Discover finds animated series made for YouTube.
A poster grid, a detailed list or cover flow, with Shuffle for nights when nobody can choose.
// the player
Films play right next to your library, so you can keep browsing. Want it bigger? Go full screen or pop it out into its own window.
// themes
Every colour is a CSS variable. Write your own or paste one somebody sent you, and the whole app changes straight away.
/* Soda, the default */ --name: "Soda"; --bg: #1b1b1b; --panel: #242424; --text: #f2f2f2; --accent: #20d6aa; --dot: #ff5a6e; --star: #e6db74;
Paste your CSS into Settings, then Theme. Up to seven of your own are kept.
// questions
No. Your files never leave your PC. Soda Screen only goes online to fetch artwork, ratings and descriptions, and to play YouTube videos when you ask for them.
Pretty much anything. Playback runs on libVLC, the engine inside VLC, so if VLC plays it, Soda Screen will too.
No. Everything the player needs comes with Soda Screen. If you do have VLC, there's an Open in VLC button on every film and episode.
No. It runs entirely on your PC. Titles are matched from the file names, and the details come from public film databases.
A 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 PC. Reactions and reviews use Microsoft Edge WebView2, which Windows 11 already has.
